Race cars is not my thing but if we are in France, we have to stop by Le Mans. So off we went to the auto museum. Took forever to find it but we were determined to see the cars. Some pics below for you race car aficionados.

How to get a Free Shoe Shine at La Rochelle

La Rochelle, France

It’s really hard to travel through Europe on the cheap. We really try to keep our costs down when we travel, but sometimes it is not worth it to try to save a few pennies. My step-father-in-law, Mike, tried to save €0.30 (about 43 cents U.S.). We were at the train station at La Rochelle, France. [La Rochelle is a lovely city on the coast of France. Some pics are below and in the album.]. Mike and mother-in-law Vicky went to use the restrooms. Seems simple enough. Well when he returned, his shoes were wet and Vicky was laughing hysterically. When I asked what happened, she said that Mike, didn’t want to pay to use the toilette. So when a man came out, Mike caught the door and went in without paying. Apparently, Mike didn’t read the warnings on the door either [warnings were written in French, German, and English] that the toilette went through a self-sanitizing process once it was used.

So here is Mike sneaking into the toilette and suddenly the lights go off in the cubicle and it is filling up with water. The room is being sprayed with sanitizer. Mike is freaking out because the door wouldn’t open and he couldn’t get out. He starts banging on the door. Vicky however is in the other cubicle and told him to press the red release button. Of course, he couldn’t find it because it was dark. Mike says he heard a woman standing outside the cubicle laughing. He tries to slide the money under the door so that the woman can pay for him. He couldn’t do it. But he finally found the red release button.

Happy to say Mike is safe and his shoes are nice and shiny.

Sit doggy, Sit. Good Dog.

Sun, Pets, and Bikes in Sebastian

The fun thing about washing clothes when you travel is the interesting people and dogs you meet. The hubby and I met a nice couple who ran the laundry mat and also some people from Australia. I was introduced to a young pup who was only 9 months old but very eagerly and boldly jumped on my lap and wanted to get to know me better.

One thing about San Sebastian is that it is a very dog-friendly city. Lots of people walked their dogs and even went into restaurants and stores with their dogs. I am a dog lover myself so it was a treat for me.

Another thing I noticed is that the city is also very friendly to cyclists. There were cycle paths everywhere throughout the city.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

Train Ride to San Sebastian

View Spain-France Trip 2011 on lcasti's travel map.

As I mentioned before, I am not a morning person. So it was really hard for me to get up in the ungodly hour of 4:30am so that we can catch the 8am train to San Sebastian. But I navigated the clan through the Madrid metro and to the train station on time. We were served coffee and cookies before our main breakfast on the train.

Now I like to drink my coffee slowly and nibble on my cookies. Vicky likes to keep her hands busy and is always cleaning. So when she finishes her coffee and cookies, she starts to grab everyone’s cups. Of course, everyone else is done except me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see her hand coming towards my coffee.

No can do Vicky. Keep your hands off my coffee!

I gave her a napkin and told her to wipe down the table. That should keep her busy for a while and her hands off my coffee.

The train ride from Madrid to San Sebastian was great though. I managed to stay awake and see some beautiful landscape. Some photos below and more in the album.

Sparkly Vampires in Barcelona?

View Spain-France Trip 2011 on lcasti's travel map.

I really got to stop reading Twilight fan fiction. It doesn't help that this trip is giving my imagination time to run wild and think up some cool scenes for a Twilight fanfic that I'm writing. (BTW Bella is getting a therapist in my fanfic)

But what is one to think when 2 of the 3 Castillo clan can't ride on the top floor of an open-top tour bus? They say it is because of sensitive skin that sunburns easily. But is it really? . . .hmmmm. . .

Barcelona was AWESOME! The Mediterranean Sea is gorgeous and the weather was fantastic. A great day to be out in the sun. I was so happy I had to take a pic of myself to remember the occasion.

I am not a big fan of modern art, and there was a lot of it on display on the streets of Barcelona, but I had to take a pic of this one. Shout out to Pat. This is a sculpture (others line the street) made of recycled railroads.

More pics of Barcelona below and in the album. Next stop, San Sebastian.
